Hints for Dealing with Scary Things and How to Have Fun this Halloween

Woof woof everyone! October is almost over and do you know what that means? Halloween is almost here! I love Halloween. I like carving pumpkins and dressing up in my cowboy costume. I also like seeing all the fun costumes that our campers wear! Sometimes, it can be a little scary for me though. I don't like scary costumes or the creepy decorations that people sometimes put in their front yards. Luckily, I always remember the skills I learned at camp, and that always helps me whenever I start feeling uncomfortable.
Here are some things I learned at camp that help me around Halloween:
1. Ask for Advice: It's always okay to ask for help if something is bothering you! Sometimes, talking it through with someone can help you overcome something difficult. Just like when your counselors helped you through a difficult camp activity, any trusted camp counselor, parent, or teacher would be happy to help you through it.
2. Watch Someone Else: Sometimes, watching someone else do something that you're nervous about can help you feel better about trying it. Watch how they confront the problem.
3. Break Down the Challenge: Try to break the challenge down into smaller, less scary challenges. Take it one step at a time, and keep working at it until you succeed!
4. Listen to Your Friends: Ask your friends for advice! There's always a chance that they have encountered your problem before and know how to overcome it!
5. Take a Break: Remember, it's always okay to walk away from a challenge that seems overwhelming or makes you uncomfortable. Take a short break, rethink the situation, and come back to face the challenge with new ideas and a fresh outlook.
6. Believe in Yourself: Always have faith that you can do it! I saw you overcome challenges over the summer, so I know you can accomplish anything! Remember that I believe in you!
If you're out on Halloween and you encounter something scary, just remember everything you learned at camp! Don't let scary things keep you from having a fun and safe Halloween!
Woof woof! (Happy Halloween)
